Comments & ID Thoughts
We have had several of these spiders in our home. We live in Western NYS. They are large, ( like 3 in) seemingly all black, and freeze when approached. All though they can walk very quickly, I have not seem them "zoom" like other spiders. They do not seem to jump either. Just freeze. We are u sure of They type. We initially thought Fishing Spider, but it doesn't seem to match that well. Possibly a Black Lace spider?

I think a black lace weaver. There could be more certainty seeing the eye pattern,
Not a fishing spider though and just might be a wolf spider.
I considered a Wolf Spider as well. I may be able to get a better picture at some point. This is the 3rd one we’ve had in our house this week, so I expect more to crawl through. Thank you.
It looks a lot like the spider I caught today, which I’m convinced is a black lace weaver. Indoors, it looked black. It was about 1″ in size. It behaved as you described. It just froze and even let me take pics close up. It didn’t run that fast. It had the same silhouette as your spider’s. I’m in Ontario, so not far. This is the month when they’re most likely to be seen.
